Al-Jazeera Leaks 'Spy Cables' on Iran, Mossad, Hamas

Al Jazeera began publishing Monday night several documents allegedly leaked from the Israeli Mossad - via the Spy Cables database shared with the British Guardian.

One of the documents alleged that, just a few weeks after the famous speech Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu gave in 2012 assessing Iran as being about one year away from building a nuclear weapon, the Mossad sent a confidential report to South Africa's State Security Agency (SSA) stating that, in their estimation, "Iran does not engage in the necessary activities required for the production of weapons of mass destruction."

According to a secret report sent by the institution, "Iran is trying to narrow the gaps in areas that look legitimate, including uranium enrichment, which would allow it to decrease the time required for the production of weapons of mass destruction from the moment of instruction that was given."

However, the report also adds that "it does not seem that Iran is ready to enrich the uranium level required for the development of a nuclear bomb." The Mossad estimated that Iran, at the time, had "a hundred pounds of uranium enriched to 20%" - uranium which was allegedly diluted according to the terms of the interim agreement between Tehran and the P5+1 powers.

In another landmark leak, the US's Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) was "desperate" to infiltrate Hamas in 2012. CIA and the SSA met in Jerusalem in 2012 over the issue of Hamas clashing with security forces; according to a CIA memo sent to Pretoria, the CIA was "desperate to gain access to Hamas in the Gaza Strip, and wanted the SSA's help."

Several more "Spy Cables" are due to be published by the Qatar-based news agency in the upcoming days. The leaks are ahead of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's planned address to Congress over the Iranian nuclear issue.

Netanyahu: The World Must Keep Punishing Terrorist Supporters

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Monday evening responded to the ruling by a New York court which found the Palestinian Authority and the Palestine Liberation Organization liable for their role in encouraging and inciting terror attacks during the Second Intifada.

In his statement, Netanyahu called on the international community to follow the court's example and continue to punish those who support terrorism. "The U.S. federal court decision determines the responsibility of the Palestinian Authority for the murderous terrorist attacks of the previous decade. Instead of drawing the requisite lesson, the Palestinian Authority is advancing steps that endanger regional stability such as the hypocritical application to the International Criminal Court even as it is allied with the Hamas terrorist organization," he said.

"We expect the responsible elements in the international community to continue to punish those who support terrorism just as the U.S. federal court has done and to back the countries that are fighting terrorism. Today as well we remember the families that lost their loved ones; our heart is with them and there is no justice that can console them," concluded Netanyahu.

Yesh Atid chairman also responded to the court's decision, saying, "This is a just and historic decision which sends a clear message - there is no immunity for terrorism and there can be no compromises when facing it. This is a clear warning to the Palestinian Authority - the world will not turn a blind eye to involvement in terror attacks and to the targeting of innocent civilians."

Earlier on Monday, Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman hailed the ruling as a "moral victory. This decision constitutes above all a moral victory for the state of Israel and for victims of terrorism," Liberman said of the ruling.

It "confirms the opinion of those who know what happened in the early 2000s but which many in the world refused to recognize because of hypocrisy, known vested interests or anti-Semitism," he said. "Terrorism is an integral part of the very structure of the Palestinian Authority," Liberman charged.

Britain: "Hitler's Walk" Sign Canceled After Uproar

A plan to rename a park in Cornwall, Britain "Hitler's Walk" has been scrapped, after the Jewish community raised opposition to the epithet. The name has nothing to do with Nazi leader Adolf Hitler, according to the Daily Mail - rather, the park has been known as "Hitler's" for "decades" after an "over-zealous park warden" for the Mevagissey Parish. The official name is "Cliff's Park."

The signs had been taken down in 2005 following complaints that it was offensive. However, plans to erect new signs were presented in January - just before the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp.

Cornwall's Jewish community had called on vacationers and locals to boycott the park if the planned signage had gone through. The story also surfaced amid heightened anti-Semitism in Britain and a media frenzy over British Jews noting how unsafe they feel in their home country.

A poll last month found that almost half of British Jewish people fear they have no long-term future in Britain or Europe, and a quarter of those surveyed said they had considered leaving Britain in the past two years.

Local politicians welcomed news of the ban. "This plan has caused huge offense to many people as well as attracting national and international condemnation and coming on the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the concentration camps it couldn't have been more insensitive," Liberal Democrat MP for St Austell and Newquay, Stephen Gilbert, stated.

"I'm pleased that the parish council have abandoned the plan and I am sure that sentiment will be shared by everyone whose family, like mine, fought against the Nazis and all those who rightly remain horrified at the mass extermination of Jewish people, disabled people, gay people and others that Hitler is responsible for. Respect, humanity and decency has prevailed at the Parish Council and the plan has gone where it belongs, in the bin," he added.

DarkNet: A Thriving Marketplace for Criminal Transactions - From Narcotics to Terrorism

By DEBKAfile

Ross Ulbricht, 30, the operator of the Silk Road online marketplace for illegal substances, was convicted on all seven counts brought against him before a Manhattan court earlier this month. They included every type of hard drugs, money laundering, criminal conspiracy, terrorism and hacking – all transacted in virtual bitcoin currency. The FBI dubbed Silk Road the e-Bay of dope. Sentencing is scheduled for May 15, but meanwhile, US marshals will auction off Ulbricht's 50,000 bitcoin hoard on March 5.

In a separate legal process, Ulbricht was accused of using the alias of "Dread Pirate Roberts" to solicit murder, with the help of an undercover police officer. Our cyber expert noted that DarkNet operates as the hidden bottom floor of the legal, public world web. Widely used by sophisticated criminal organizations and spooks, it conducts a lively trade in stolen official data, false identities, fake credit cards, firearms and ammo, as well as biological and chemical weapons. Also found there are hard porno, including materials for pedophiles and snuff videos.

A substantial part of the illicit international drug traffic is routed through DarkNet, including the logistics of production, marketing, payment collection and money laundering. It is accessed through The Tor "routing onion," the open sesame for surfers seeking prohibited services.

This subterranean site was originally developed by the US Navy for the safe, undetectable transfer of secret communications. Its main difference from ordinary web sites is that it is constructed like an onion and operates through many layers of computers which transfer encrypted messages from one layer to the next until they reach their destination. This method is designed to seal the message's secrecy against interception or decryption en route. The DarkNet system operates a number of marketplaces for its forbidden wares. One of the best known was Silk Road, which has now been shut down.

DEBKAfile's cyber experts report that American intelligence and law enforcement agencies make a point of deliberately parading their weaknesses in countering the ulterior levels of the Internet. The FBI repeatedly complains that doesn't have the resources for tracing criminal and terrorist activity through the Internet.

Our experts suspect these agencies "protest too much" to cover up their real occupation, which is to steer the internet underworld into the waiting arms of National Security Agency researchers and monitors. Much of its software originated in the first place with US government agencies. It was they who created the algorithms for transferring data and designed the TOR protocol and the Topology network.

In the second place, various NSA programs are deeply entrenched in the nether regions of the Internet, reaching into the hubs carried by Internet servers and able to "see" almost every transaction, mail, surf or download taking place anywhere in the world.

These capabilities do not exactly confirm the claims by US agencies that their oversight is severely limited. Neither does the manner in which "Pirate Roberts" was finally run to ground in a San Francisco public library.

Although Ross was a computer and programming genius, he needed help for solving a technical glitch on his servers. Through a questions-and-answers site, he accessed and made the mistake of using his real name. Two minutes later, he corrected his user name to frosty@frosty. It was that which finally landed him in hot water, because it was identical to the last part of the servers' encryption key found at his home.

Ross Ulbricht's New York trial was widely reported and publicized – especially after the jury quickly reached a unanimous verdict of guilty. However, since then, the traffic on DarkNet traffic has not subsided. In fact the volume of illicit trade in dangerous drugs, trafficking in people and body parts, the supply of aberrant pornography, stolen financial data, and conventional and unconventional means of warfare, expands all the time.

Conversion Therapy' Debate Stirs Row

Members of Israel's LGBT community and social media users are calling for a boycott of next month's Jerusalem Conference due to a planned session on "conversion therapy" for religious homosexuals, which will be held in the presence of a rabbinical figure, a psychologist and an LGBT representative.

The organizers of the conference, which is being held for the 12th year on behalf of the Besheva magazine for the national-religious public, decided to discuss for the first time one of the most sensitive issues in the religious society and LGBT community: Are the attempts to deal with homosexuality ethical, does conversion therapy have a chance of succeeding, and can it be seen as a solution for "people with inverted tendencies," as they are referred to in the sector.

Despite Health Ministry's rejection of treatments aimed at changing religious gays' sexual orientation, Rabbi Shlomo Aviner says men who have undergone such therapy are 'happy, love their wives and have good, normative families.'

Knesset Member Shelly Yachimovich of the Zionist Camp announced that she would not take part in the conference after its program was published, and demanded that the organizers remove her name from the list of participants. Yachimovich, who was scheduled to participate in a different session, said that the conference's program "shames me and my world view: Equality for all people regardless of who they are." She added that "if there is something which needs curing, it is homophobia, racism and xenophobia – to the point of defining a difference as a disease."

Yachimovich explained in a letter to the Besheva magazine, "In any event, I never confirmed my participation and you are using my name without my consent. Regardless of that, I was shocked to discover in the ad that the conference includes a session on whether 'conversion therapy' is a desirable solution for people with homosexual tendencies.

"'Conversion therapy' is an attempt to 'cure' people who are attracted to members of their own sex, as if it were a flaw or a disease. These imaginary and false treatments by different charlatans stem from a primitive and dark world view. It's sad and alarming that in 2015 there is even a need to explain that there is nothing wrong with being attracted to a member of one's own sex, and that the GLBT community members are citizens with equal rights who do not have to be cured of anything."

Yachimovich added that "there is a lot of evidence and testimonies on the mental damage caused to patients. The Israel Council of Psychologists and the Psychological Association have warned the public against these 'treatments,' and the Health Ministry has adopted this opinion." She concluded her letter with a demand to "correct all the publications about the conference as soon as possible."

The conference's organizers said in response that they plan to deal with the issues on the agenda "courageously, responsibly and with real appreciation towards the other," and that they would have expected Yachimovich to actually congratulate rabbis in the Religious Zionism Movement for putting such an important issue, which has never been dealt with seriously before, on the table.

The organizers added that "unlike all those shouting against it, the conference will deal with the issue responsibly, seriously and out of an understanding of the distress of religious people who are looking for a solution to the conflict between their sexual inclination and their religious faith.

"We chose to deal with a painful and explosive issue courageously, and invited all the opinions dealing with the issue to a real and serious discussion (psychologist Eliyahu Ackerman, Rabbi Arele Harel, representatives of religious gays' associations and Ha'aretz journalist Benny Ziffer).

"It's a shame that Ms. Yachimovich, who is known for her tolerance towards the other, who is not religious, failed to understand the importance of the discussion and failed to raise some tolerance for religious people who are seeking halachic and rabbinic help for their distress."
