Obama Administration Torpedoes Bid to Free Pollard

By Israel Hayom &

A U.S. Justice Department parole board has denied a request to free imprisoned Israeli spy Jonathan Pollard, according to the Committee to Free Jonathan Pollard.

Pollard recently submitted a quiet request to be released under restricted conditions. However, American officials rejected the request, saying that freeing Pollard at this time would "constitute contempt for the severity of the offense and promote a lack of respect for the law."

Pollard, 60, was arrested by U.S. authorities in 1985 and later sentenced to life in prison. In recent years, numerous former U.S. government officials -- including former Secretaries of State Henry Kissinger and George Schultz and former CIA director James Woolsey -- have openly and unequivocally called for Pollard's release, saying his punishment was disproportionate for the crime he committed, of spying for a friendly country.

Last March, Pollard's wife, Esther Pollard, personally appealed to President Barack Obama to free her husband.

Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein (Likud) said on Wednesday that the U.S. government's rigid position on Pollard "crosses every moral boundary. It seems to me that mercy has completely fallen off the ladder of [the U.S. government's] values," Edelstein said.

Edelstein, who was the first Israeli minister to visit Pollard in jail, said, "Every day that passes increases the fear that Jonathan, given his health condition, might not survive his time in prison. If, heaven forbid, this transpires, it would be remembered for generations as a breach in the Israel-U.S. relationship."

Pollard's supporters had been optimistic that his request for freedom would be granted this time, given that he was nearly released last spring as part of the Israeli-Palestinian peace talks and that top U.S. intelligence officials do not oppose his release, having said it was not pertinent to them.

The Committee to Free Jonathan Pollard expressed shock and anger at the U.S. government's decision to prevent Pollard's release. "The heart breaks at the thought that Jonathan will not be freed after 30 years in prison," the committee said. "The denial of the request proves that the regular bureaucratic path will not lead to justice for Jonathan."

The committee said Obama should use the right given to him by the U.S. Constitution to cut short an inmate's prison sentence "to redress the injustice" done to Pollard. "The regular procedure will not lead to this," the committee said.

Pollard has spent half his life in prison and his health has deteriorated significantly in recent years. He has required urgent medical treatment several times due to a life-threatening health condition, and has undergone surgery to stabilize his health.

Senior US officials have written President Barack Hussein Obama to denounce the injustice of the case. The letter was signed by eight senior officials, including former CIA director James Woolsey, former Assistant US Defense Secretary Lawrence J. Korb and former US National Security Adviser Robert C. MacFarlane.

After it became public that the parole was blocked yet again, the officials decided to clear the letter for publication.

Selected portions of the letter follow: We, the undersigned, in our official US government capacities, at the time of and subsequent to Jonathan Pollard's arrest, are fully familiar with the Pollard file and with its classified contents.

We write to protest the unjust parole process which on August 4, 2014 denied parole to Jonathan Pollard after 29 years in prison. Our review of the Parole Commission decision compels our strongest objections to the conclusions of the Commission and our dismay with the deeply flawed process.

The Parole Commission decision document mischaracterizes Mr. Pollard's actions and makes a patently false claim upon which it bases its denial of parole.

The Commission's allegation that Mr. Pollard's espionage "was the greatest compromise of US security to that date" is false; and not supported by any evidence in the public record or the classified file. Yet it was this fiction that the Parole Commission cited to deny parole.

We have learned that at the parole hearing, the government relied heavily on a stale, largely discredited, 28-year old classified memorandum written by former Secretary of Defense, Casper Weinberger, without any scrutiny or rebuttal since Pollard's security-cleared attorneys were denied access to the document and the Parole Commission is not cleared to review it.

Mr. Weinberger himself discounted his original damage assessment of the Pollard case in a 2002 interview when he stated that the Pollard case had been exaggerated out of all proportion and that it was in fact "a very minor matter but made very important."

The unreliability of the 1987 Weinberger document was known to and ignored by the Parole Commission. Worse, the Parole Commission ignored all other documentary evidence that mitigates in favor of Mr. Pollard's immediate release.

...All factors considered, including his comportment as a model prisoner for nearly three decades, Mr. Pollard's unconditional release (let alone his release on parole, which does not address the disproportionality of his sentence) is long overdue. Copies of our previous letters to you, urging Mr. Pollard's release were included in his parole submission and ignored.

We would like to point out as well, that the Parole decision document notes Mr. Pollard's Salient Factor Score, indicating his suitability for release as "10" which is the highest score possible. This too was ignored.

The Parole Commission also ignored compassionate factors, such as Mr. Pollard's age (he has spent half of his life in prison) and his poor state of health; and his family situation (his wife has had two bouts with cancer and had to manage without her husband's presence or assistance).

As former officials of the US government who served our country with pride, we take no pride in the ongoing miscarriage of justice which has deprived Mr. Pollard of his right to fair and equal treatment before the law.

Mr. Pollard committed a serious offense and justifiably received a severe sentence. Efforts to secure commutation of Mr. Pollard's life sentence began in earnest only after Mr. Pollard had served 20 years as a model prisoner and adequately expressed remorse. It is clear that his sentence is far more severe than others in the US convicted of the same offense.

...Denying a man his freedom based on a claim of damage that is patently false while ignoring exculpatory documentary evidence and hiding behind a veil of secret evidence is neither fair nor just, and it simply is not the American way.

...We therefore strongly urge you, Mr. President, to tolerate no further delay in rectifying an injustice that has gone on for far too long. We urge you to act expeditiously to commute Mr. Pollard's life sentence to the 29 years which he has already served.

Israel Foils Hamas Plot to Assassinate Liberman

The Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet), the IDF and the Israel Police apprehended three terrorists who planned to assassinate Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman using RPG missiles, it was cleared for publication on Thursday evening.

The military prosecutor filed charges in the Judea Military Court against the three, who planned to assassinate Liberman as a response to Israel's counterterrorism Operation Protective Edge in Gaza last summer.

According to the indictment, the three were planning to buy RPG missiles and then launch them at the foreign minister's car, in hopes that the attack would stop Israel's military operation in Gaza.

The terrorist cell was headed by Ibrahim Salim Mahmoud Zir, 37, a senior member of Hamas who resides near Bethlehem and who served several prison terms in Israel on charges of terrorism.

Zir enlisted his brother, Ziad Salim Mahmoud Zir, 35, and another Hamas terrorist by the name Adnan Amin Mahmoud Tzabih, 31. They admitted to being recruited to help carry out an attack against a senior Israeli figure.

In addition, Zir turned to senior Hamas terrorist Ibrahim Yusuf al-Sheikh, 50, a resident of Bethlehem who is known for his past involvement in Hamas terrorist activities, and asked him to help him in obtaining RPG missiles.

The three terrorists were caught while conducting surveillance on Liberman's security guards near his home in Gush Etzion community of Nokdim.

They were arrested in mid-August by security forces after one member of the squad was caught trying to buy the missiles. The three were charged with conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to trafficking in munitions.

PA, Hamas Justify Murder of 'Rabbi Terrorists'

New revelations show the Palestinian Authority's official daily targeted rabbis as enemies just a week before the horrific attack on a Jerusalem synagogue this Tuesday, in which four Jews were murdered as well as a Druze policeman in an attack with hatchets, knives and guns.

The official PA daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida published an op-ed last Wednesday claiming "the rabbis of the secret societies" are the ones ordering Israel to "set the foundations for an external hegemony," as revealed by Palestinian Media Watch.

"The Zionist settler ideology does not seek temporary influence or gains...but rather sets the foundations for an eternal hegemony based on the instructions of the 'rabbis' of the secret societies. And all this is in order to take revenge on history and their minority and false persecution complex," read the op-ed.

The same piece said rabbis are "desecrating" Al-Aqsa Mosque, and "are enemies, and they have a hand in everything that is happening: in the issue of ISIS (Islamic State) and its arming, in importing explosives to the Arab lands, in the spread of extremist ideas and the deepening of the doctrinal conflict between Sunnis and Shi'ites. In addition, they are the ones creating the crises. They are the ones igniting the civil wars."

Middle East Media Research Institute has exposed how despite PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas' condemnation of the synagogue attack - a condemnation his own PA clarified was a lie as it celebrated the "heroic" attack - PA and Hamas leaders have been busy justifying the murderous attack.

The reactions to the attack on the Lebanese Al-Quds TV and Mayadeen TV channels featured such lines as "the settlers are not civilians," "synagogues represent Israeli settlements and extremism," and "Zionist rabbis...are the greatest terrorists in that racist state...these are no civilians, they are terrorists."

Fatah Central Committee member Amal Hamad also got in on the action, telling the PA's Al-Awda TV that the synagogue attack was justified given the status on the Temple Mount where the Jordanian Waqf (Islamic trust) has banned Jewish prayer and Arab rioters clash with police on a near daily basis. "It was only natural that the outcome of all that has happened would be the operation that we witnessed yesterday," Hamad said.

CBS Admits Mohammad is Israel's Most Popular Name

The Israel Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) released new data showing the most popular boy's name in Israel is actually a name with Islamic origins – Mohammad.

The statistics were unveiled after a controversy erupted two months ago after the Administration of Border Crossings, Population, and Immigration released a list of most popular Israeli names and hid the fact that Mohammad topped the list in the boy's name category.

The list released by the CBS revealed the truth – that the Muslim name was the most popular in Israel within the last year. Although Muslims are the minority in Israel, the prevalence of the name Mohammad among the Muslim community is 15.65% while the most popular Jewish boy's name Noam has a prevalence of 2.36%, which make Mohammad the most popular boy's name in Israel. The CBS presented the most popular Jewish names alongside the most popular Muslim names, in separate lists.

The most popular Jewish girl's names were Noah, Shira and Tamar while the most popular Muslim girl's names were Jana, Miriam, and Aleen.

Other than Mohammad and Noam, the most popular Jewish boy's names were Uri, Itay, and Yossef while the most popular Muslim boy's names were Ahmed, Omar and Yusuf. The derivates of Joseph was the only name to appear in both the Muslim and Jewish lists.

The names Amir and Omer were part of the top 10 names for Muslim boys. These names are also prevalent among Jews in Israel however they did not make it to the top ten of the Jewish list.

1939 Palestinian Flag. What does it look like? Surprised?

By Israel Faxx News Services

This a Larousse French dictionary from 1939. In the appendix it lists all the then current flags of the world in alphabetical order. You'll notice that for Germany at that time the flag was the Nazi one replete with Swastika which proves that this was pre-1945.

Now, alphabetically, look for the Palestinian Flag. YES , there is one. What does it look like? Surprised? Oh, but you thought (Mandate Jewish) Palestine was an Islamic Arab-,Turkish-, Circassian Sovereign State that the bad Jews took over, right?

Confused? From 1920-1948 a ( class `A' Mandate) State of Palestine existed as per international law but it was, as all of its major institutions, Jewish. Until the 1960s, name "Palestine" resonated as something Jewish to peoples ears. The 4,000 year old Jewish homeland or "Land of Israel" or the "Holy Land" were all synonymous.

The British as legal Mandatory over the Mandate managed or mismanaged the state partially with Jewish Auxiliary until Jews regained official sovereignty in 1948, by declaring independence. The U.N. did not recreate Israel as some people claim.
