Pollard Request to be Sent Next Week

By IsraelNationalNews.com

The Prime Minister's Office announced that the letter in which PM Binyamin Netanyahu officially asks for the release of Jonathan Pollard will be sent to President Barack Obama at the beginning of next week.

Pollard has been behind bars for 25 years as part of a life sentence for passing classified information from the U.S. to Israel.

WikiLeaks to Release Israel Cables

By VOA News & IsraelNationalNews.com

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange said Thursday that his website will publish 3,700 of what he calls "sensitive" U.S. diplomatic cables on Israel, 2,700 of which originated with Israel.

Al-Jazeera TV quoted Assange as saying the documents will include information on Israel's 2006 war with Lebanon's Hizbullah terrorist group, and this year's assassination in Dubai of a Hamas terrorist leader.

A cable released by WikiLeaks this week said Israel and the Palestinian Authority shared intelligence about the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas as it took control of the Gaza Strip in 2007.

Asked if Israel has been in contact with him, Assange said, "No, no contacts with Israel, but I am sure Mossad is following our activities closely, [just] like Australia, Sweden and the CIA." He said it is not true that he has a deal with Israel not to publish the secret files.

Assange said the files contain "some information" from "files classified as Top Secret" about the Second Lebanon War between Israel and Hizbullah in the summer of 2006. He also indicated that some files incriminate Israel in the assassination of Hamas terrorist leader Mahmoud Al-Mabhouh in Dubai.

Asked by Al-Jazeera if there are "any files about agencies providing intelligence information about famous personalities in the Arab world?" Assange replied, "I am not sure about that, but there are files about Hizbullah in Lebanon."

Regarding Israel and its Mossad intelligence agency, he said, "Most of the files related to Mossad are classified as top secret but there may be some files related to the role of Mossad in killing a Lebanese military leader in Damascus by sniper bullets.

He said U.S. diplomatic cables show top Syrian officials suspected Israel carried out the assassination of a top aide to President Bashar al-Assad. They also show the assassination triggered a rift within Assad's government that may have strengthened hardliners in Damascus.

The accounts come from diplomatic cables from the U.S. embassy in Damascus, and were published Tuesday in Britain's Guardian newspaper. They focus on the August 2008 killing of Brig. Gen. Mohammed Suleiman, who advised Assad on arms procurement and strategic weapons.

Syrian officials said little publicly after Suleiman was shot and killed at a Syrian beach resort, but the cables indicate that within the government tempers were flaring. U.S. diplomats wrote that some security officials openly challenged Assad's indirect peace talks with Israel during a high-level meeting in the days following the assassination.

The U.S. embassy in Damascus speculated in some of the cables that Syria had said little about the killing because officials did not know who was responsible or feared any publicity would reveal "yet another lapse" in the country's security apparatus.

There are 2,500 files related to Mossad and I have read only 1,000. So I don't know about everything, I need more journalists including Arabs to read and analyze and put everything in the context for the benefit of the readers."

Originally from Australia, Assange is under house arrest in England pending an extradition hearing; he is wanted for questioning in Sweden regarding alleged sexual offences. He denies the allegations and claims they are politically motivated.

Asked by Al-Jazeera if there are "any files about agencies providing intelligence information about famous personalities in the Arab world?" Assange replied, "I am not sure about that, but there are files about Hizbullah in Lebanon."

Plan to Use Christmas, New Year to Bring the Messiah

By IsraelNationalNews.com

Rabbanit Tzivya Eliyahu, widow of former Sephardic Chief Rabbi (Rishon LeTziyon) Mordechai Eliyahu, revealed a plan to Arutz Sheva's Hebrew-language news service to bring the Messiah closer through Sabbath observance – with help from the non-Jewish holidays of Christmas and New Years.

This year, the two holidays fall out on the Sabbath (Shabbat) day. "That means that the Christian world takes a rest, the stores and banks are closed, and tens of thousands of Jews who don't always observe Sabbath can rest from their work," she explained.

Jewish observance of the Sabbath day is a known way to bring the Messiah, she said. It is written in the Talmud that if the Jews were to observe two Sabbath days in a row, "they would be redeemed immediately," she noted.

Each individual can make a difference, she said, "When I asked the rabbi, he always said that even just one extra person keeping the Sabbath day could tip the scales in favor of everyone."

"I am convinced that this is a favorable time," the Rabbanit continued. "Many people have free time, and many Jews who unfortunately work on the Sabbath day can avoid doing so on the next two Sabbaths, the twenty-fifth of December and the first of January."

"I call on everyone to recruit people for this important task.'Taste and see that G-d is good,' let us all taste the Sabbath day," she concluded.
