Mass Graves In Sobibor
Seven mass gravesites were found in the Sobibor extermination
camp in Poland. Archaeologist Angei Kula said that the graves are
656 by 820 feet - except for one that is more than three times that
size. All are 16.4 feet deep. He said that the victims were killed by
bullets. The Sobibor area became forestland after World War II,
and this is the first time the area has been excavated. About
250,000 Jews were murdered in Sobibor during the Holocaust.
Iraq Also Gets Involved
By IsraelNationalNews.com and IsraelWire.net
The General Security Services has revealed Iraqi involvement in
terrorist cells in Ramallah and Jenin. The Shin Bet arrested 15
Palestinians who were funded, trained and run by Iraq, through the
Palestine Liberation Front (PLF), which is based in Iraq and headed by
Mohammed Abass, also known as Abu Abas.
The PLF was behind the 1985 hijacking of the Italian cruise liner
Achille Lauro in the Mediterranean during which a wheelchair-bound
American, Leon Klinghoffer, was killed. Abu Abass is a member of
the Palestinian National Council.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office, the
group was funded through Iraqi intelligence, and through Jordanian
banks with the money then transferred into Palestinian banks or
smuggled into the country.
The cells were responsible for the murder of a teenager, Yuri
Gochin of Pisgat Ze'ev, as well as the placing of bombs in the
Galilee and Shomron. The cell members had planned to carry out
"spectacular" major attacks in Ben-Gurion International Airport and
in downtown Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, according to the security
The major attack they planned in July - a plan to attack the
airport - was foiled by information that reached Shin Bet through
the Mossad. A major alert was issued, causing huge traffic jams
near the airport and even delaying flights. But the alert proved
wise - members of the cell reached the vicinity of airport, were
deterred and went home. Instead of the airport plan, they went
ahead with their plan of a kidnapping, tempting Guschin into
Ramallah in July, where they killed him.
Sharon: Israel to Respond if Attacked by Iraqi Missiles
By Aluf Benn, Nathan Guttman & Daniel Sobelman (Ha'aretz)
Prime Minister Ariel Sharon reportedly will tell President Bush
next Monday that Israel expects advance warning of any operation
against Iraq, since it would have direct impact upon Israeli
If Iraq retaliates against an American attack by striking Israel,
Sharon expects that the United States will not try to stop Israeli
reprisals against Iraq, Israeli sources told Ha'aretz.
During the 1991 Gulf War, the U.S. demanded that Israel refrain
from counter-strikes after Saddam Hussein's regime fired Scud
missiles. "There's no reason why the United States should limit
Israel this time, should Saddam Hussein attack us," the sources
Israeli Helicopters Hit Gaza Targets
By VOA News
Israeli helicopter gunships attacked Palestinian targets in the
Gaza Strip early Sunday after a day of turmoil in the wake of the
Israeli assassination of a militant Islamic leader.
Palestinian officials said Israelis fired at least 20 missiles at
an office run by Palestinian leader Yasir Arafat's Fatah
organization in Deir el-Balah in central Gaza, and a Palestinian
security post further south in Khan Younis. Elsewhere, a
13-year-old Palestinian boy was killed near the West Bank town of
Bethlehem during a gunbattle involving Israeli troops. The Israeli
military said the soldiers were forced to open fire during a
The Israeli rocket attacks were carried out after mortar fire
killed an Israeli soldier and wounded two others in the Gush Katif
Jewish settlement area in Gaza. Gunfire aimed at the Jewish
neighborhood of Gilo in East Jerusalem was also reported Saturday.
The three men died when Israeli helicopters opened fire at their
car near the West Bank town of Nablus. A series of violent
incidents, including an ordnance explosion that killed five
children, has left 12 Palestinians dead since Thursday.
Israeli Scientists Develop Bio-Computer
By VOA News
Israeli scientists say they have developed a biological
computer-like device so small that one-trillion of them - all
working together - can be contained in a single drop of water
measuring one-tenth of a millimeter.
The biological computer, or automaton, was created by
scientists at Israel's Weizmann Institute of Science, near Tel
Aviv. A report on the research has been published in the latest
edition of the science magazine Nature.
The director of the institute, Ehud Shapiro, said the computer uses
enzymes as hardware, which in turn manipulates DNA molecules as
software to create a single computing machine.
Although the minuscule computer is yet to have a practical use,
Israeli scientists say it might some day be used to sense an
abnormal biochemical change in the body and decide how to correct
it by synthesizing and releasing the proper drug.
